the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built
[them] for it within, [even] for the oracle, [even] for the most holy
[place]. | Jer. | 20:10 | KJ For I heard the defaming of many, fear on
every side. Report, [say they], and we will report it. All my familiars
watched for my halting, [saying], Peradventure he will be enticed,
and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. ASV 10 For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, [say] all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. YLT For I have heard the evil report of many, Fear [is] round about: 'Declare, and we declare it,' All mine allies are watching [for] my halting, 'Perhaps he is enticed, and we prevail over him, And we take our vengeance out of him.' CV For I hear the muttering of many, shrinking is round about. "Tell, and we will tell him," every mortal, once wishing my welfare, is observing my limping: "Perhaps he will be enticed and we will prevail against him, and we will take our vengeance on him." |

| Ez. | 41:5 | KJ After he measured the wall of the house,
six cubits; and the breadth of [every] side chamber, four cubits, round
about the house on every side. ASV Then he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side-chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side. YLT And he measureth the wall of the house six cubits, and the breadth of the side-chamber four cubits, all round the house round about. CV And he is measuring the sidewall of the house six cubits, and the width of the angle cell four cubits all around the house, round about. |

| 41:6 | KJ And the side chambers [were] three, one
over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which
[was] of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have
hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house. ASV And the side-chambers were in three stories, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which belonged to the house for the side-chambers round about, that they might have hold [therein], and not have hold in the wall of the house. YLT And the side-chambers [are] side-chamber by side-chamber, three and thirty times; and they are entering into the wall--which the house hath for the side-chambers all round about--to be taken hold of, and they are not taken hold of by the wall of the house. CV And the angle cells are angle cell over angel cell, three levels, and that thirty times. And they are entering in the sidewalls which the house had for angle cells round about, to become holders, yet they are not coming to be held in the sidewall of the house. |
|
||||||||||
| 41:7 | KJ And [there was] an enlarging, and a winding
about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house
went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house
[was still] upward, and so increased [from] the lowest [chamber] to the
highest by the midst. ASV And the side-chambers were broader as they encompassed [the house] higher and higher; for the encompassing of the house went higher and higher round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house [continued] upward; and so one went up [from] the lowest [chamber] to the highest by the middle [chamber]. YLT And a broad place and a turning place still upwards [are] to the side-chambers, for the turning round of the house [is] still upwards all round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house [is] upwards, and so the lower one goeth up unto the higher by the midst. CV And it is wide and around upward for stairs to the angle cells, for enlarged is the house with stairs upward all around the house. Therefore wider is the house upward. And so from the nether level one is ascending to the uppermost by the middle. |
|
||||||||||
| 41:8 | KJ I saw also the height of the house round
about: the foundations of the side chambers [were] a full reed of six great
cubits. ASV I saw also that the house had a raised basement round about: the foundations of the side-chambers were a full reed of six great cubits. YLT And I have looked at the house, the height all round about: the foundations of the side-chambers [are] the fulness of the reed, six cubits by the joining. CV And I see for the house an elevation, all around the foundations of the angle cells, a full reed of six cubits to its armpit-like abutments. |

| 41:9 | KJ The thickness of the wall, which
[was] for the side chamber without, [was] five cubits: and [that] which
[was] left [was] the place of the side chambers that [were] within. ASV The thickness of the wall, which was for the side-chambers, on the outside, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side-chambers that belonged to the house. YLT The breadth of the wall that [is] to the side-chamber at the outside [is] five cubits; and that which is left [is] the place of the side-chambers that [are] to the house. CV The width of the side-wall, which is for the angle cell to the outside, is five cubits. And what is left open, between the angle cells which are for the house, |
|
||||||||||
| 41:11 | KJ And the doors of the side chambers
[were] toward [the place that was] left, one door toward the north, and
another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left
[was] five cubits round about. ASV And the doors of the side-chambers were toward [the place] that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left was five cubits round about. YLT And the opening of the side-chamber [is] to the place left, one opening northward, and one opening southward, and the breadth of the place that is left [is] five cubits all round about. CV And the portal of the angle cell is toward what is left open. One portal is the way to the north, and one portal to the south, and the width of the place left open is five cubits, all around. |

| 41:26 | KJ
And [there were] narrow windows and
palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch,
and [upon] the side chambers of the house, and thick planks. ASV And there were closed windows and palm-trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch: thus were the side-chambers of the house, and the thresholds. YLT And narrow windows and palm-trees [are] on this side, and on that side, at the sides of the porch, and the side-chambers of the house, and the thick places. CV ANd embrasured windows and palms are hence and thence on the shoulders of the vaulted gallery and the angle cells of the house and the think timbers. |

* Gen 2:21-22 "angular organ" is at least a consistent rendering, whether correct or not; "reproductive organ" (as the revised text of Genesis will read) is clearly more interpretation than translation. Even "angular organ" is technically incorrect. While the womb is generally forms a V shape, it is still not technically angular. Angles require straight edges. Walls may form angles. No body organ can legitimately be called "angular.
* Ex. 25:12,14 How can the wall of a hollow cell (the ark) itself be a hollow cell? It's argued that the walls of both the tabernacle and the temple were angular or tapered, but this is not true of the ark, a rectangular box, with only perpendicular angles?
* Job 18:12 - to say that "calamity is at your side," makes perfectly good sense. It seems to need no improvement. To say, as CV does, "calamity stands ready against his reproductive organs" sounds strangely like the crude idiom "to have one by the balls," which, of course, are not located at one's side. This translation is out of accord with the CV's standard of angle. Furthermore, this translation contradicts the translation of Genesis 2:21-22. The Hebrew Scriptures have several ways of referring to the reproductive organs, from the specific terms, "testicles" and "penis" in Lev. 23:1, to the euphemistic phrase "under the thigh" in Deut 23:1. Thus it seems unlikely that the term "tsela" here means anything other than "side."
Job 18:12 is referring to a man. There is nothing angular about any of a man's "reproductive organs." Adam allegedly had his "angular organ" (womb) removed. How then can the man of Job still possibly possess one? How can the same rendering, "reproductive organ," be used of two organs which are understood by the translator to be two different and separate organs. How can the specifity of the organ be pressed in Genesis, when it's use as a generic term here contradicts that specificity?
Mr. Knoch does not himself seem to emphasize the triangular shape of the angular cell removed from Eve, or specifically identify it as the womb, as Jeff does with his illustration of the uterus. Mr. Knoch simply defines tsela as a "hollow cell or vault." Again, he does not specify the shape as tri-angular. Is it possible that this generic rendering "reproductive organ" (here in Job and in the upcoming revision of Genesis) is an attempt to thus withdraw from a specific identification of the uterus as "tsela"? In fact, Mr. Knoch speculates that the male breast is a vestige of man's original bisexual condition. He does not get any more specific as to the location of the "angular organ" which was removed from Adam. Mr. Knoch's vestigial breast is quite removed from Jeff's vestigial "suture-like structure." If we split the difference we're left with a rib! Actually such speculations are without foundation.
