The original manuscript, dated May 28, 1843, is titled "A Word to the Calvinists." There are variations in spelling and punctuation. The character of Helen Huntingdon, in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall expresses some of the same views that Anne expresses here.

Anne's Letter to Reverend David Thom (December 1848)
Early in December, 1848, the Reverend David Thom of Liverpool wrote to Anne and congratulated both herself and her sisters on their highly successful and enjoyable novels; but in particular, he praised Anne's promotion of the doctrine of Universal Salvation in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. At the time that she wrote her reply - the day before New Year's eve, Anne was still in mourning for her sister Emily, who had died just eleven days earlier; and she was quite ill herself. A mere six days after sending this reply, she was diagnosed as suffering from consumption - the disease that was soon to end her own life.
The letter was addressed to the Reverend David Thom of Edge Hill, Liverpool; it was signed in her pen name Acton Bell:
